All Hands On Deck, 5/22/17

Summer is almost here and college students are returning home for the summer, school is letting out and our snowbirds have returned. I am compelled to get this message out to them and to the rest of our community.  If there was ever a time you thought about working some extra hours or taking on a summer job there is no better time than now!

We are so fortunate to have a great variety of high caliber small businesses in our community. One of the main reasons for this is the huge influx of visitors who spend their vacations eating out at our many restaurants and buying that something special as a token of their visit to Ludington; something we experience each summer.  These visitors help our small businesses build up the resources they need during those busy summer months, so they can sustain in staying open for the locals all winter long. The Ludington Area CVB (Visitors Bureau) spends over $500,000 each year inviting people to the area.

This year we are so short on workers for our restaurants, motels, and shops I am afraid of what might happen when these visitors come and experience a much lower level of customer service than they expect from our friendly small town.  We have built up a great reputation and that is why we continue to see more and more people coming here each year.  We cannot lose or tarnish that reputation due to lack of help.

This summer we need all hands on deck, we ask you to consider working this summer. It doesn’t have to be full-time; even a few days a week or a couple weekends a month can make a difference. Most businesses are more than happy to train and to accommodate your schedule. Let us rally around our small business community this summer and give them the support they need, not only by shopping locally but working locally.
