Ludington & Michigan Craft Beer
Michigan has become a craft-brewed beer location favorite, and Ludington is doing its part to contribute to the cause. For instance, The Jamesport Brewing Co. on S. James St. has been a Ludington staple for years, with a variety of American, Scottish and German brews that complement a wide ranging menu. Around the corner on Ludington Ave. the Irish themed Sportsman’s Bar is celebrating being a family owned business for 60 years. Keeping it in the family, the owners’ daughter and her family opened The Mitten Bar next door four years ago, serving only Michigan brews, wine and liquor. Two years ago they opened Barley and Rye, a whiskey and scotch bar with a fun, build-your-own themed menu. Just to keep things interesting, you can order from one venue and wander through the other two.
Dining the Entire Family Will Love!
We have talked about the hot spots in the craft beer industry, but how about that family dining location perfect for the victory dinner after your child’s team wins a local sporting event? Mason County has plenty of great options that the entire family will love.
One of the most popular is right downtown at the House of Flavors. Home of their all-day breakfast, the interior will bring you back to the late 50’s with groovy music and period décor. The food is pretty great as well. While you are there, don’t forget to take in dessert with their homemade ice cream or a classic banana split.
If a quick pick-up-and-go is all you have time for, many people opt for a pizza. We suggest you give Chuck Wagon Pizza a try. Freshly handmade dough is what your locally sourced, preservative-free toppings sit on, but don’t forget the pizza sauce. This family recipe has been going strong for over 30 years and is made fresh with the highest quality tomato products available.
Since 1955, Sportsman’s Restaurant and Irish Pub has been a staple of the Ludington Community. Family owned and operated, this great downtown hot spot is a family favorite with their legendary pizza, Tuesday Night Steak Night, Friday Night Fish Fry and, of course, the great family-friendly service you have come to expect with a multi-generational dining establishment.
Farmers Markets…Eat Fresh
The Farmers Market is each Friday from 3-8 p.m. from mid-May through the end of September. The Farmers Market is located in the heart of downtown Ludington in the North James Street Plaza. Market-goers can find fresh veggies, fruits like cherries, apples and peaches, fresh poultry, cheeses, wine, baked goods, plants and handmade gifts like soaps, jewelry and much more.
The farmers markets do not just cater to the local residents, they are also essential in supplying the local restaurants. Places like Jamesport Brewing Company, Barley & Rye, PM Steamers and many more use locally sourced goods to fill out their fresh seasonal menus. Be sure to stop in and see what specials these great local restaurants are cooking up with our fresh local fare.
