My Inspired Studio had the winning pitch Wednesday, Aug. 7, inspiring judges at Epworth, a Ludington, Michigan, resort, to choose the startup to earn this year’s Momentum 5×5 prize.

INSPIRED PARTIES TAKES HOME MOMENTUM FIRST-PLACE PRIZE – ANNOUNCEMENT
Five Ludington-area businesses just got a boost of confidence – and a sizable chunk of change – in Mason County’s fifth annual Momentum Business Plan Competition Pitch Night May 17. Inspired Parties art business of Ludington was awarded $14,000 as the top winner, and the other contestants also each received $9,000: Art by Mary Case, HumaniTea, Leta’s Educational Daycare and The Tailor Shop.

Ludington Chamber Announces Leadership Changes – Promotion Announcement
Brandy Henderson Miller, vice president of the Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce, is being promoted to president/CEO of the Chamber, effective February 1. Kathy Maclean, currently president/CEO of the Chamber, resigns January 31 – after which point, she will assist in a consulting capacity.
Momentum Changes Made for 2019 – Rule Change Announcement
The local $50,000 business plan competition will see new changes for 2019 – including a sharing of the wealth.
Business representatives, who serve on the judges’ panel, will decide the amount of prize money awarded to a contestant. Those participating in the final pitch competition may win any dollar amount up to $50,000.

Ludington to Host Statewide Entrepreneurship Conference – Announcement
January 3, 2019—Ludington, Michigan has been selected to host the 2019 Michigan State University Extension Entrepreneurship Conference. Named the “MSU Extension Connecting Entrepreneurial Communities (CEC) Conference,” the program was created by MSU Extension in 2007 as a way to increase local community knowledge and support for entrepreneurship growth throughout Michigan by providing tools and resources to help communities help entrepreneurs succeed in their towns.

LUDINGTON, Mich., Sept. 26, 2018 – Good things do come in small packages, as natural skin care product business Sister Bees can attest after winning $50,000 last Friday in Mason County’s Momentum Business Plan Competition.
The maker of beeswax skin care products was selected out of four other finalists in front of a panel of judges and a packed auditorium in a “Shark Tank”-style pitch Sept. 21 at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts. Cynthia Lang of Cynthia Lang Pilates took home $5,000 for second prize.
2018 Momentum 5X5 Night Finalists Announced – 2018 Momentum 5×5 Night Presenter Announcement
LUDINGTON, Mich. – August 6, 2018 – The Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce, with the Epworth Assembly and Epworth Church Association, announced the five presenters who will be part of the Momentum 5X5 Night being held on August 15.
The five presenters will be (listed in alphabetical order) – Art by Mary Case, Cosmic Canine Creations, Humani-Tea, Ludington Manufacturing and Sister Bee’s. These presenters will pitch their business idea for five minutes, each in front of four judges and a live audience. One winner will take home $5,000, in addition to receiving the opportunity to submit their business plan in the Momentum Competition’s Top 10.

LUDINGTON, Mich. – Feb. 21, 2018 – Last year was a banner tourism season for Ludington and Mason County, with the highest-ever hotel room rental income, increased event attendance, and more visitors to attractions like Ludington State Park and Sandcastles Children’s Museum. And the new Port of Ludington Maritime Museum attracted 10,000 visitors since opening in June 2017.

MANISTEE, MI–Individuals in the beginning stages of starting a business, in need of accessing capital, or simply considering self-employment will have the opportunity to attend a Starting a Business workshop Thursday, May 11 in Manistee. The workshop is being offered by the Northwest Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in partnership with Baker College of Cadillac and is co-hosted by the Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce. The workshop is being held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the West Shore Medical Education Center, Classroom 2, 1465 East Parkdale (US 31).
